With this in mind, there are a few more things that a person can do:
- Time Restricted Eating Window, which in essence is intermittent fasting,
- And then fasting proper.
Fasting is a process whereby an individual abstains from all food and drink, save of course water, for a prescribed period of time.
Fasting, whether intermittent fasting, or fasting proper turns on a physiologic function called Autophagy.
Autophagy is two words: “Auto” which means self and “Phagy” meaning to eat.
Autophagy means self eating, and is the body’s mechanism for fighting disease and strengthening the immune system.
In essence, autophagy is a process whereby the old damaged cells break down and recycle their own components, like organelles, proteins and other cellular material allowing for regeneration of new healthier cells.
Without nutrients, the cells expel viruses and bacteria, and get rid of the sick and the weak as it were, and the body creates new and more robust cells to weather the anticipated hard times of an approaching famine!
It’s not that bad, but you get the idea.
While fasting and autophagy can be very beneficial in preventing cancer cells from developing in the initial stages, and making you healthier, it is believed that the processes of autophagy tend to support, protect and promote cancer cells once they have developed and are growing. So be cautious!
This makes sense as the process would cause a proliferation of cell growth- not a good idea with cancer.
For autophagy to occur, the body needs to be in a fasting state.
Fasting state is when blood sugar levels drop low enough to force the body to make changes.
So let’s take a look at intermittent fasting and fasting proper.
Intermittent Fasting:
As has been discussed in a number of earlier video blogs, intermittent fasting is called Time Restricted Eating, and this is something that you can do each and every day.
This would mean that you would eat only during a prescribed period of time each day. This time period is from when you take your first bite in the morning until your last bite at night, and I do mean your absolute first and last bites.
The most beneficial Time Restricted Eating windows are between 11 and 8 hours each day. This means you would only eat for 11, 10, 9 or 8 hours each day, and preferably the SAME hours each day.
Depending on the eating window this would mean that a person would fast intermittently between 13 and 16 hours each day- absolutely no food, just water during this time.
I have breakfast at 10:30 am and take my last bite at 6:30 pm for an 8 hour fasting window.

Fasting Proper:
Fasting proper is essentially the same as Time Restricted Eating and Intermittent Fasting, only much longer- still no food at all, and only water, just plain water.
Here are some interesting time references:
After 8 hours of fasting, the body starts to make changes.
At 12 hours, the body begins to produce ketones- chemicals produced in the liver and used as an energy source when glucose is not available. Ketones switch off hunger hormones.
This is the idea behind how the Fat Switch works in your body where stored fat is converted to ketones for energy- in essence burning off a person’s stored fat. Again, reach out and we will be happy to show you how this works.
After 13 hours of fasting, Growth Hormone increases and slows the aging process and burns fat.
In men, testosterone increases 1300% in just a 15 hour period of fasting.
Why take growth hormones or testosterone when the body will do it for you if you can not eat anything for 13 to 15 hours each day?
My Time Restricted Eating Window each day is 8 hours of eating and 16 hours of fasting.
During this time C-Reactive Protein or CRP decreases.
C-Reactive Protein is a protein produced in the liver in response to inflammation and is used to measure how inflamed a person is. CRP is elevated by infections, injuries and chronic diseases and might indicate risk of heart disease and other chronic health problems.
A 13 hour fast a day can cause a 64% decrease in breast cancer recurrence .
A 17 hour fast starts to stimulate cell repair and aging cells are eliminated.
After 24 hours of fasting the entire gut resets and you receive intestinal stem cells that repair the entire inner lining of the gut.
A 36 hour fast causes the body to find stubborn fat around the waist – burns it for energy.
After 72 hours the entire immune system resets and recycles producing new cells.
Fasting Proper Recommendations:
72 hours
- 3 day water fast, 2 times a year is a great way to eliminate cells that are rapidly aging a person, or that could become tumors.
48 hours
- One time per quarter can help with mental issues or depression or anxiety.
36 hours
- Fast is ideal for those looking to lose weight and burn fat. Do a 36 hour fast one time a month.
24 hours or less
– one time per week, or preferably as a daily Time Restricted Eating Window each and every day at the same time each day.
6 Foods to Produce Autophagy:
- Avocados- break fast with fats.
- Coffee- 1 to 4 hours after coffee, autophagy in liver, muscle tissue and heart tissue. Use organic, no mold coffee
- Green tea- neuro effects.
- Tangerine Tea/Oil- triggers autophagy in nerve tissue to rid cancer tumors.
- Olive Oil- decreases Tau and Beta -Amyloids. Beta Amyloids are considered a cause of Alzheimer’s.
- Turmeric/Curcumin add black pepper increases autophagy in pancreas cells.
