Hello! Please CLICK ME TO WATCH ALONG
After the last video, I thought of a few more things that needed to be said.
It should be pointed out that it might take a while to throw the fat switch- that is to get your body to convert stored fat into ketone bodies for energy rather than using sugar and carbohydrates.
After 3 days without eating any sugar or carbohydrates yes, some change is beginning, but keep in mind that sugar/glucose that has not been converted to fat can be stored not only in the fat cells, but in the organs and muscle tissue as well.
So the more fat you have, the more glucose that is stored and released for energy rather than converting fat into ketone bodies for energy.
Happy Fat Cells Vs. Angry Fat Cells:
Here is another thought, there is a difference between happy fat cells and angry fat cells in the body.
Happy fat cells will gladly continue to take up glucose and store it as fat, whereas angry fat cells will not, and tell the body to store the fat someplace else.
Typically these extra storage places are the organs and muscles of the body- the liver, the heart, the kidneys…, on and on.
In addition to this, the body will deposit glucose in the skin, forming skin tags, and a black velvety deposit around the eyes, the neck, elbows and back of the knees.
It is my opinion that the body will also grow new tissue to handle and store glucose. It is thought that sugar feeds cancer cells, but I’m not so sure that sugar doesn’t actually create and grow cancer cells first.
Something to think about.
As you work to throw the fat switch, these fat reserves in the organs and muscles are the first to be “de-fatted” as it were. So you won’t see much change in the waist line.
This type of fat is called visceral fat and is far more dangerous that subdermal fat, that stuff around your waist.
Liposuction, CoolSculpting and All That Other Stuff:
Keep in mind that we are all born with a set number of fat cells. When we get fat, we do not gain additional fat cells, the ones we have just get bigger, and bigger and bigger!
A number of years ago I saw an MRI projection of a person before and after a fairly radical liposuction procedure. The before projection showed a considerable amount of subdermal fat, that is belly fat, and a considerable amount of fat around the internal organs of the body.
After the procedure, the subdermal fat, you know, the belly fat was much less, but there was absolutely no change in the visceral fat, that is the fat that surrounded the internal organs.
We have all seen the “skinny” guy with the bulging belly that looks like he has a basketball under his shirt. This is due to the fat deposits around the internal organs that grow and cause the belly to distend.
Another downside to Liposuction and CoolSculpting is that they remove and/or freeze to death fat cells. This tissue is called Adipose Tissue and is part of the hormonal system and immune system. This is a very bad idea to get rid of fat cells.
What’s more, if a person goes off the wagon, or never got on in the first place- they never changed the way they ate, the fat will be deposited in the face, neck, shoulders, thighs, knees, any place it can, including the internal organs. This is deadly solution that will leave most looking grotesquely deformed from the unusual fat deposits.
So be patient. Eat in your time restricted eating window- 8 to 9 hours for males, 10 hours for females, and eliminate grains, grain flours, sugar, polyunsaturated vegetable oils, and trans fats.
Eventually those hidden glucose reserves will be drained and you will start converting stored body fat into ketone bodies.
Take Care,
Dr. Dave
