The Normal Responses and Factors Involved With Pain
So we agree that pain is a normal response to injurious forces, right? So pain is a good thing and warns the person that he might want to check himself. We need pain, just not a lot of it, and certainly for not too long.
To make the pain go away the person would have to recover from and resolve those injuries he incurred, and to do so he would have to STOP harming himself, and STOP doing those things that caused and ARE causing the injury/pain, right?
Stuart McGill, Ph.D. who is considered the guru of gurus concerning the low back says that “People deserve their pain!”
No, he is not a big meanie, but watch people continue to engage in injurious activities, never modifying or avoiding those activities or motions that are causing pain and ultimately injury. Watch the gym rats on YouTube!
Every day a person sits at a computer, bent forward, breaking down the tissues of the neck, shoulders, upper back, lower back, hips.., causing injury and inflammatory changes resulting in pain and headache. They are earning that pain and suffering.
And the best part… IT ACTUALLY HURTS LIKE HELL AT THE TIME AND THEY KEEP DOING IT NEVER MAKING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND PAIN/INJURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I understand, you are the most important person in the world, and if you don’t sit here killing yourself the world as we know it will end!
Nonsense! We tend to overestimate what we can do in a day and underestimate what we might accomplish in a lifetime. No one cares. They’ll pick your dead body up off your workstation, throw it in the dumpster and hire the 10 people who should have been doing the job in the first place!
What Pain Is Telling You
Spoiler alert- if you are doing an activity or maintaining a posture and you are experiencing pain even now, this is your body telling you to STOP- you are damaging your body! Pain is not always fear leaving the body- it’s a sign that you are injuring yourself.
This is where Paragon Chiropractic shines! We take the time to observe what you are doing, identify the activity intolerances, and show you better ways to do your day without hurting yourself!
If you are harming yourself, you are going to stop. Whether you identify what’s hurting you and make changes, or mess yourself up so bad you simply can’t anymore.., but you will eventually stop.
I prefer the Paragon way, and let us help you make the changes to get the most out of your life!
Surgeries, drugs, braces and no longer doing the things you enjoy the most is so unnecessary if you just listen, pay attention to yourself and seek help to avoid further damage and pain.
If you don’t mind me saying, settle the heck down and enjoy the journey. You’ll get there soon enough, and if you take better care of yourself, you might enjoy yourself more when you do get there, or certainly have more fun on the journey!
