Hello,

Thanks again for reading along!

Before I get into another health topic; and one that I think you will find fascinating, I thought I might talk a little bit about economics.

I know… snore zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

But I hope to show you how the natural laws of economics apply to anyone who has a body and hopes to live a healthy and prosperous life.

Back in the mid to late 1700’s a Scotsman by the name of Adam Smith wrote two books entitled The Theory of Moral Sentiments, and  An Inquiry Into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations- also known as The Wealth of Nations. It is my understanding that the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, the late Margret Thatcher carried a copy of The Wealth of Nations with her at all times.

In these two texts, Mr. Smith described an observation he had made and called it the Invisible Hand.

The Invisible Hand is a metaphor for the unseen forces that move the free market economy. Driven by individual self-interest, and freedom of production and consumption, the best interests of society, as a whole are fulfilled.

Briefly, because I need a place to live, food and I like to buy “things”, the money I am paid for working is exchanged with the landlord, the grocer, and those places I buy “things” from; they, in turn, spend the money I paid them to continue to run their businesses, pay taxes and all of the other “stuff”!

As a result, people are productive and we all live in a decent municipality with running water, electricity, sewers, and roads, and we can all buy “things”.

Oddly enough this is all driven by self-interest, meaning I work and produce goods because I am interested in taking care of number one, but in doing so, everyone else seems to be doing well, as well!

How can I, interested in myself make things good for everyone else?

That is the free market and the Invisible Hand that Adam Smith observed.

Because I depend on the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker for my survival, it would be in my best self-interest to make sure they continue to work and produce the things I like to buy.

This is an interesting point.

See, there is no need for any laws or rules to make this happen, and everyone gets along as one big happy, happy!

When this balance and flow are disturbed, things get troublesome.

Unfortunately, from the beginning of time, policymakers and know-bests have been messing with this natural order much to the sorrow of those who can least afford to suffer the consequences of such arrogance.

The concepts of the free market and the Invisible Hand can also be applied to one’s health and prosperity.

One will find that there are simple natural laws and as one pursues his most primal self-interest… survival, he will find that he needs others to survive and do well in life if he is to do the same.

Consider medical doctors. We need them, they save lives, but…, if one were to do an online investigation he will find countless studies and reports detailing medical errors, and even deaths related to doctors who were chronically sleep deprived.

Funny, but it looks like we need to take care of our medical doctors and make sure they are surviving well as our very lives may depend upon it!

We all do better if we help others survive better.

And how do we do so?

By living! And doing those things that constitute living and being alive!

As one lives, he needs the work and efforts of others for his survival, to some degree the individual’s needs almost force others to live and produce, and prosper- which is life!

As I am certain you are aware, how wonderful does it feel to know you are important and needed; that it matters that you wake up every day and get after it? One might consider that the fuel of life!

And how interesting that as I work to survive and do well, it makes those around all of us work to survive and do well.

Think of a championship sports team. As players play well, it brings out the best of the team and the other players. Certain efforts and attitudes align with the pursuit of excellence, and other activities simply dry up and blow away.

No need for laws or rules, the team polices itself and they all win, they are all champions!

As the title of this blog suggests, there oughta be a law…, but what laws could one enforce that forced people to survive, you know, eat well, quit destructive habits, take care of themselves…, there are none, and only as one works to survive, will that increase the survival potential of others much like the free market and the Invisible Hand.

Here’s something to think about…,

The 2021 Federal Register which lists all new laws and rules put forth by the 435 Government agencies authorized to issue rules and regulations, is a text of 74,532 pages!

All of which are meant to make us survive, and get along, I’m sure!

But do all of these laws really work?

Not really, but what does?

In my opinion, one’s pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness…, it keeps us all toeing the line, as it were. Too many people count on each of us for their survival, and so we have an obligation and responsibility to keep ourselves productive, healthy, functioning, and surviving.

This is where Paragon Chiropractic can help.

If you feel you might be letting the team down, let us know… we absolutely can help, and if only for the sake of helping!
