I know I know…, this is worse than a Kiss Farewell Tour- retire already!!!

However, I really, really, really want to get you all sold on the idea of keeping a food journal, AND bringing it to Paragon so we can show you, with you as the example what I’m talking about.

So often people hear things but don’t realize that it is they who are being talked about.

You’ve heard that right? Ever gone to a seminar or a sermon and felt like the speaker or Pastor was talking about you?

“Oh, you are just being paranoid!”

Not in this case, I am talking about you!

In the meantime, and without really getting into the “whys”, I’ll tell you this- the first step is always…, to stop harming yourself.

Why would a person move new furniture and kitchen appliances into a house that is still burning down?

And yet this is what most attempt to do by living an unhealthy lifestyle and trying to eat a salad every once in a while, or taking some vitamins.

You have to put the fire out, clean up the mess, and then rebuild…, and if you are smart, you will find out what caused the house to burn down in the first place, and make appropriate lifestyle changes!

As far as a body is concerned, to stop harming oneself, one would eliminate the following types of food:

  1. Anything with refined sugars and sweeteners,
  2. Anything with refined wheat and grain flour,
  3. Polyunsaturated vegetable oils and trans-fats.

These were all discussed in the earlier blogs.

Foods made of these items are typically processed foods, and so if one were to eliminate the above and thennnnnn, simply start eating nutrient-dense, whole foods- that being the actual food itself as Mother Nature made it, this would be an amazing start.

Notice I didn’t say you need to eat Jim-Jim berries during a full moon or go totally Paleo-Keto-Pescadarian-Vegan-Latte-Vente!

In fact, start with the elimination, or working on eliminating the stuff that is actually harming you, and then we’ll worry about the best stuff to eat.

Remember, it is impossible to “out health” a destructive lifestyle with a few organic veggies and push-ups!


In his book Genius Foods, Max Lugavere recommends as step one cleaning out our shelves and pantries of all the unhealthy stuff that will do us absolutely no good!

After all, if it’s in your kitchen, it’s as good as eaten, right?

This includes all forms of refined, and processed carbohydrates, all sources of wheat and gluten, industrial-grade emulsifiers (polysorbate 80 or carboxymethylcellulose found in coffee creamers, ice cream, nut milk, and salad dressings), concentrated sweeteners, commercial cooking oils, synthetic sweeteners, and sugary beverages like fruit juices and soda to name a few.

Obviously, there are a number of things you should have in your kitchen, and these would be more nutrient-dense, whole foods such as extra-virgin olive oil, protein, raw nuts and seeds, vegetables, low-sugar fruits like berries, herbs, and seasonings, and dark chocolate (80% cocoa or more) to name a few.

If only it were that easy… YOU MUST ABSOLUTELY READ LABELS!!!!!

Dr. Abby just told me about this thing called, “Green Washing”. This is when food manufacturers put their unhealthy, crappy food in boxes and bags that make them look super healthy and good for you…, until you read the label! Don’t get fooled!

There will always be some kind of curveball that will make your best efforts a complete waste of time!

This is why reading labels, and keeping a food journal of everything you eat and drink each day for a week or two is so important.

We can help you spot the curve balls that are sabotaging your efforts to be healthy.

I cannot emphasize enough that many of the man-made compounds in the foods we eat are actually activating and enforcing those pathways that will eventually make you sick, or worse.

There are no drugs, diets, miracle foods, or miracle solutions that can overcome an unhealthy lifestyle. Absolutely none…, regardless of what the pharmaceutical companies, health food industries, vitamin houses, and exercise fanatics tell us!

Again, it is impossible to “out health” a destructive lifestyle.

I can think of no other way than a food journal to show you what you are doing to yourself.

How often do we get blood tests, and other studies and are told one thing or another is too high or too low?

Now what?

Oh, try a little exercise, eat a little less of something, oh yeah…,

“and take these pills!”

If a person does all of this or at least tries and has no joy…, the numbers worsened.

This is why the food journal is the most revelatory way that I can show you exactly which chemicals in the foods you are eating are activating the pathways that are causing you to be unwell.

For example, let’s say your recent blood work shows that your cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, and insulin levels are all elevated.

Now what?

The blood test only shows you that these numbers are elevated, but I can show you why and what you are doing to make them so.

With a food journal, I can show you exactly which foods and drinks are causing your numbers to be screwy.

Eliminate the bad and get you to start eating yourself to health and wellness!

Apart from having been lied to and tricked and sabotaged every time you’ve ever tried to take care of yourself, what would keep you from keeping a food journal and bringing it to us at Paragon Chiropractic and start winning good health?

We have little notebooks we can give you, or as the kids tell me, most can keep a journal on their cell phones. Doesn’t matter as long as everything you eat and drink is recorded.
