Who’s In Control Of Your Health

Hello,

And welcome to another Dr. Dave/Paragon Chiropractic blog.

Over the past few years, I’ve had a number of patients tell me that I, that being me, Dr. Dave, cannot retire. At first, I thought this was kind of touching- you know, Sally Fields kind of touching,

“Wow, you know, you must like me, you must really, really like me!”, sort of a thing.

But then I started to wonder, do I look that old? Do I look like I should be retiring, or worse… retired?!?

Obviously, I’ve got the whole Sally Fields thing going on, but as I spoke with these patients I came to find out that many of the doctors they had seen for the past 20-30 years were retiring, and now, at a time in their life when they needed the type of understanding and compassion that they used to get from old Dr. So and So- he’s not there anymore!  Now they have to fit some type of a profile to see the doctor, and if not, they have to find a different doctor or see the Physician’s Assistant- and either way, whoever they wind up seeing sits there staring at a computer screen typing! This is not good.

Well, you needn’t worry. I have no plans to retire, and I will be involved with Paragon Chiropractic trying to help people help themselves until the bitter end. Dr. Diane will see to this! 😊

Healthcare is changing, and not all for the bad. For the longest time, the idea was that patients were supposed to be “patient” and assume a passive role in their lives and well being. All they had to do was kind of sit there and wait, and hopefully, in their lifetime scientists would come up with a cure, or perhaps the pharmaceutical fairy would appear out of nowhere and hurrah, save the day! This was always nonsense, and today with all the drugs and other things out there it could be potentially deadly nonsense.

No doctor cures you, never did, never will. At best he or she can put you in a much better position to win, and that position is for you and your body to heal and repair itself. That’s it, at best.

So “patients” really should not be “patient” and should become much more active in their lives, health, and overall welfare. It has always been this way since the beginning of time regardless of what we’ve been told since the beginning of time!

If you look back over the earlier blogs, there is a common theme- you must be involved in your life and wellness, and you, that’s right YOU, are really the only HEALTHCARE PROVIDER who will ever be able to help you.  Yes, we need doctors- medical, osteopathic, chiropractic, naturopathic- they are great for crisis management, and they all save lives. This is not what I’m talking about- I’m talking about healthcare, as in healthcare provider, not crisis managers.

Today, more and more people are surviving heart attacks and strokes than ever. This is great news. We all know people who recently had a heart attack or a stroke and you would never know. But, this is crisis management, and we have gotten so much better at this side of the equation, BUTTTTTTTTT… the number of people having heart attacks and strokes is on a dramatic rise- this is the healthcare side of the equation, and we are not doing so well.  And why?!? Because YOU are the healthcare provider, not some doctor. Are you doing your job? Are you providing yourself with healthcare?

Stay tuned to next week, to see how Paragon Chiropractic can help!

Until Next Time,

Dr. Dave
